Knighting Ceremony

A Cherished Robin Hood Festival Tradition

Each year, the Robin Hood Festival honors exceptional Sherwood area residents with a ceremonial knighting. This prestigious event recognizes individuals for their dedicated community service, bestowing upon them the titles of "Sir" or "Lady," awarded by Maid Marian.
Event Details:
  • Date: Friday, July 18
  • Time: 6:00 PM (Pre-ceremony entertainment begins at 5:45 PM)
  • Location: Family Stage, Veterans' Park, Old Town Sherwood

The knighting ceremony kicks off the Summer Festival with grandeur and pageantry. Join Maid Marian, Robin Hood and his Merry Men, costumed villagers, and the Sherwood Renaissance Singers for a festive celebration. The ceremony also includes the announcement of the Medallion Hunt winner and a special pronouncement by the Mayor of Sherwood officially opening the festival.

A Time-Honored Tradition: For over 35 years, the festival has honored more than 450 individuals through this tradition. We are currently seeking nominations for the 2024 knighting. Ideal candidates are long-time community volunteers, outstanding citizens, or those who significantly contribute to making our town and world a better place.

  1. Your name, email address, and phone number.
  2. The nominee’s name, along with their email address, mailing address, and/or phone number.
