A Cherished Robin Hood Festival Tradition
Each year, the Robin Hood Festival honors exceptional Sherwood area residents with a ceremonial knighting. This prestigious event recognizes individuals for their dedicated community service, bestowing upon them the titles of "Sir" or "Lady," awarded by Maid Marian.
Event Details:
The knighting ceremony kicks off the Summer Festival with grandeur and pageantry. Join Maid Marian, Robin Hood and his Merry Men, costumed villagers, and the Sherwood Renaissance Singers for a festive celebration. The ceremony also includes the announcement of the Medallion Hunt winner and a special pronouncement by the Mayor of Sherwood officially opening the festival. A Time-Honored Tradition: For over 35 years, the festival has honored more than 450 individuals through this tradition. We are currently seeking nominations for the 2024 knighting. Ideal candidates are long-time community volunteers, outstanding citizens, or those who significantly contribute to making our town and world a better place.
